Saint Laurent Goes Rogue with Marilyn Manson and More

It’s a satisfying thing when fashion is embraced by those you’d least expect. Saint Laurent has a special edge that appeals to more than magazine editors and fashion enthusiasts – it signals a departure from the norm and has a style that not everyone quite understands (just see the scathing reviews by confused critics of Hedi Slimane’s Fall 2013 collection). The label’s inherent rock star vibe is quite literally illustrated in its latest campaign, featuring the last people you’d ever think of to be the faces of an international fashion house – Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon, and Ariel Pink.

I’ve read a lot of different reactions to this campaign, particularly focused on Manson and brand confusion. I, for one, find it perfectly aligned with my interpretation of what Saint Laurent is and think this is a logical, yet risky, direction for the label to take. What do you think?

I love that the brand is using such unexpected people in this campaign. Personally, my mind goes to people who are very polished and put together when I think of Saint Laurent. This campaign has made the brand seem much more edgy and rebellious and I totally dig it.
